We use the Past Simple to refer about completed actions in the past:
I, he, she, it, John was,
We, You, they, my brothers were,

2/ Past Simple: Negative form: was/were + NOT:
was not => wasn’t I wasn’t at school last week.
were not => weren’t We weren’t at school last week.
3/ Past Simple: Interrogative form: was/were + Subject:
Was he at school yesterday?
Were you at the party last night?
